A HEALING CEREMONY
FOR
PLANET EARTH

INTRODUCTION

by Dwayne Edward Rourke

One fine spring evening in 1976, near the Stoney Indian Reservation, west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, nineteen people gathered on the top of a mountain in order to participate in a novel form of spiritual communion. Meanwhile, eight hundred miles to the west, in Vancouver, British Columbia, another group assembled for the same purpose. They gathered at Jericho Beach, around a sacred fire created by Hopi Indian spiritual leaders. For months these same leaders had been inviting people all over the world to join with them, at the exact time of the full moon on this day, to create "A Healing Ceremony For Planet Earth". The ceremony was meant to bring vividly to life, the Hopi message that through prayer, ceremony, and the heart, we can heal the Earth, as ourselves.

For the group on Mt. Yamnuska, this message took the form of a powerful synchronicity. Exactly at 9:15, the time of the Full Moon, the wind, which had been blowing vigorously, stopped. A powerful silence enveloped the group, and a peaceful Presence filled the quiet space, infusing each member of the group with spiritual energy. Everyone present was aware that all over the world, other like-minded people were honouring the Earth in a similar way. It was clear that all were being mysteriously awoken by the manifestation of a unique healing force.

Each year, when the Sun is in the astrological sign of Gemini, and the Full Moon is in Sagittarius, the Healing Ceremony For Planet Earth brings together people from diverse backgrounds and has them merge in a relatively brief moment of undivided unity. Each year, the opportunity to co-create globally-linked, simultaneously-conducted, Earth Healing Ceremonies, returns. Each year, we are given once again, the opportunity to unite in such a simple, yet powerful way. Anyone anywhere can participate.
