A HEALING CEREMONY FOR PLANET EARTH

THE VISION: ONE EARTH , ONE HUMANITY, PEACEFUL AND UNITED. THE DATE: THE FULL MOON OF GEMINI, EACH SPRING THE TIME: MOONRISE. THE PLACE: WHEREVER YOU ARE. WHAT TO DO: UNDER THE FULL MOON, HONOR THE EARTH AS HUMANITY'S COMMON SACRED HOME BY ALLOWING A JOYOUS FEELING OF GLOBAL PEACE AND UNITY GUIDE YOU INTO SPONTANEOUS , HEARTFELT EXPRESSIONS OF UNIVERSAL LOVE. BACKGROUND: Most of us would agree that the advancement of civilization has brought humanity to the brink of planetary crisis. Not only are numerous other species disappearing at an alarming rate, but humanity itself faces the possibility of its own demise. This is so especially if one is a member of an indigenous culture living close to the land and retaining cyclic rituals intended to perpetuate a real connection to the spirit of the Earth itself. In 1976 one of these cultures offered all of humanity a dose of "Earth medicine" in the form of a "time-release capsule" of linked ceremonies called a Healing Ceremony for Planet Earth. A ceremony is a series of symbolic acts focused toward fulfilling a particular intention. The intention of the Healing Ceremony for Planet Earth is to help humanity move toward balance and increased relatedness with the world-at-large. It began as a globally-synchronized, co-creative event empowering individuals in their efforts to honor the Earth as our common sacred home. Originators of the ceremony were elders from the independent sovereign nation known as the Hopi Sinom. These elders represent an increasingly small segment of the Hopi nation who still live by traditional values. Unlike most of their tribe, these Elderly Elders, some of whom are in their nineties and beyond, have not succumbed to the overpowering influence of the Bahanna, the White Man. Instead, they have continued to live close to the land, in harmony with natural forces. Their lives have been guided by a remarkable set of prophecies handed down orally for at least a thousand years. These prophecies have faithfully revealed to their people, the shape of things to come. Most simply, what the prophecies are pointing to, not only for Hopi, but for all humanity, is that a time of Great Purification is at hand, a purification that will affect every human being on the planet. Nevertheless, deep within this process, mankind is being given the opportunity to alter the destructive course it is taking, and, by a conscious redirection of priorities, to begin a return to balance, harmony and respect for all land and life. This is what the Healing Ceremony for Planet Earth is all about. The Healing Ceremony for Planet Earth occurs without prescriptive form--all participants are encouraged to act freely to create a ceremony that aligns with their particular geography and racial/cultural background. The many local ceremonies are synchronized through a natural phenomenon accessible to all: the Full Moon. Two events associated with my own participation in the ceremony have empowered me with an undying faith in its ability to fulfill its intention to help humanity move toward balance and increased relatedness with the world-at-large. Firstly, the initial ceremony in 1976 was personally very empowering. Ceremony was new to me in 1976 but because I brought myself forward, I found myself on a windy mountaintop at the exact time of the Full Moon, reaching to Spirit with a joyfully-united group of people seeking closer communion with the Earth. Unmistakably, Spirit responded by providing us with a deep and sustained moment of penetrating, wind-stopping STILLNESS, at the precise (9:15 PM MDT) moment of planetary link-up: exact Full Moon. It was because of the simplicity, power and beauty of that moment that I made a public declaration that I would continue to facilitate for as far into the future as I could see, some form of the event on an annual basis. Ten years later, as a direct result of that public commitment, I experienced a second empowerment. It was 1985 and once again I was on Stoney Indian lands near Mt.Yamnuska, awaiting the arrival of friends several hours before the tenth annual ceremony. I had stepped out of my car and was standing in the parking lot of the brand-new Nakoda Lodge, a million dollar building that had been put up at lakeside overlooking the same mountain I and my earth healing companions had climbed many years before. As I glanced around me, I noticed a small S-shaped stick lying on the ground. I picked it up and was immediately struck with the feeling that it wanted to lead me somewhere! I surrendered to this feeling and off I went, stick held loosely in my hand-- across the parking lot, along the wooden walkway beside the lodge, down the little path by the boathouse, right down to the edge of the lake where I kneeled down and looked directly into the water. There before me, under six inches of water was a completely spherical stone! After standing there dumbfounded for a few moments, I reached into the water, pulled it out and now, holding both stick and stone high above my head shouted "Thank you!" to Spirit for such a tangible manifestation of support. That support animates me now, as I once again invite people worldwide to participate with me in co-creating another Healing Ceremony for Planet Earth.
