THUNDERBABY

by Dwayne Edward Rourke

Almost 49 years ago, my Mother was impregnated by a man I've never met. And 48 years ago, my Mother gave birth to me and never saw me again. That changed on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1996, when for the first time, my Mother and I were reunited.

To have carried me in her womb, alone and unsupported, in a society that considered such a thing to be utterly shameful , has been a truly significant sacrifice my Mother has made for me. Added to the months of shamed aloneness, in a city far from her home, my Mother had also to endure the shock of separation from her firstborn. At the moment of my birth, the State swooped in and carried me away to hands deemed more capable of supporting my new life. On New Year's Day of this year (1997) the wisdom of that decision shone forth when, in my presence, both of my Mothers met for the first time, in a REUNION filled with CLEANSED EMOTIONS and unconditional LOVE.
