Temple of the Feathered Serpent - Opening the Hall of Records

We live in a time when war rules many of the nations of the world. More and more civilians are becoming victims of armed assault. A top-down hierarchy of dominance and control is being imposed on people in many lands. Force is widely embraced as a valid means of furthering political agendas. The Temple of the Feathered Serpent - Opening the Hall of Records event has been initiated as an antidote to the pervasive mind-set created by such unimaginative and force-full imposition of culture. Everyone is encouraged to join together in a peace-full collaboration of efforts aimed at a simultaneous release into the island imagination, of a wealth of creative works inspired by one of the world's most ancient and enduring traditions of peaceful cultural development: the Feathered Serpent. Drawn from an unbroken spiritual lineage going back thousands of years, the image of the Feathered Serpent is one of the most compelling and inspiring elements of a vast and complex cosmology, a cosmology that embraces at its core, a profound divinatory tool commonly known as the Mayan Sacred Calendar. That calendar points to December 21, 2012 as being a very significant point in the evolution of our species.

Relating astrologically to the Mayan Sacred Calendar in the days leading up to 2012, gives us the opportunity of participating consciously and mythically with the cosmic order from which it is derived. What this means in terms of an artistic enterprise such as Opening the Hall of Records, is that people have within their midst, the opportunity of being inspired by the symbolism of an ancient spiritual tradition whose sustained intent has, for millennia, been the evolution of human consciousness.

The Temple of the Feathered Serpent - Opening the Hall of Records event will take place from May 31 to June 14, 2003 here on Cortes Island. It is envisioned to be a synchronized, co-creative project combining the artistic talents of numerous people, in many media. Imagine displays of painting, sculpture, and woodwork. Imagine performances of music, poetry and dance, all united under the common theme of the Feathered Serpent, ancient mythological image of the balanced unification of Spirit and Matter.
