THE LOGGING OF TWIN ISLANDS
The logging of Twin Islands has become a contentious issue on Cortes Island. As a personal response to the situation, and to bring forth as many sides of the issue as possible, I am initiating a form of public dialogue called COUNCIL.
Council is a form of group process wherein each person's viewpoint is held in utmost respect. This fact is reflected in the nature of the council process itself: A single eagle feather is reverently passed from participant to participant with each person being given an opportunity to speak their truth. Council process, if honored by all participants, will guarantee everyone the right to be heard without interruption. Whoever holds the "talking feather" will be listened to attentively, without challenge.
The basic premise of council is that everyone is entitled to be heard in a context of respectful listening.
Public dialogue held in this way can overcome barriers to real communication and can prevent the needless escalation of conflict. Please come out and share with us, your insights and concerns about the logging of Twin Islands in an atmosphere of trust and respect.
Anyone with an interest in this issue, and who is prepared to honor the council process, is welcome to attend.
