The importance of the pairing of the 2004 and 2012 Venus transits was revealed in the 1978 book Flight of the Feathered Serpent by Peter Balin. He stated: The June date is very interesting because a rare planetary phenomenon occurs on that day. On an irregular but calculable course, the planet Venus will pass between the Earth and the Sun, when it will be seen as a black dot on the face of the Sun. The next transit will occur on June 8th, 2004, and last only a short while as it passes somewhat low on the disk; but on June 6th, 2012, the transit will last about eight hours as Venus will track across the widest area of the Sun, dead center. ( The last time this phenomena was observed was in 1882 and lasted only several minutes.)
