THE MAGICAL CHILD

by Dwayne Edward Rourke

Every New Moon, Sun and Moon conjoin in the sky and an ordered process of unfoldment begins. The complete cycle of this unfoldment, from New Moon, to New Moon, is what is termed, the lunation cycle. It is a universal process analogous to the growth of a plant from seed, to shoot, to stem and leaves, to flower, fruit, and back to seed. A new generation of seed results from each cycle, as long as the plant is able to persist full cycle. It is this awareness, that fostered the emergence of agriculture as one of the foremost developments of human consciousness, a development attributable to ancient goddess cultures based on cyclic awareness.

MOON AS GODDESS

Within cultures throughout the planet, the moon has been revered as a profound symbol of the Feminine principle. The Moon, in all her phases, has been called upon by humanity for thousands of years, to teach us about adaptability and change. And, day in, and day out, for all of those thousands of years, she has been available in one form or another, to us. As Moon Goddess, she has been silently dispensing her teachings to those who were willing to receive them. As Triple-Moon-Goddess, Moon, as maiden, mother, and crone, reveals to us the secrets of eternal life. In her waxing form, as maiden, she breathes soft new life into the seeds of our deepest slumber. Her form, as mother, is revealed to us through the light of the Full Moon, where Moon, as Great Mother, unconditionally nurtures with her light, all who are willing to receive her. As Dark Moon Goddess, she counsels with us deeply about the wisdom of letting go, of moving on, into greater and greater depth and freedom. By surrendering to her, we are initiated into the mysteries of death, rebirth, and sacred sexuality.

For, in her completeness as the Triple-Moon-Goddess, Moon can bring us deeply into our power as spiritual beings, for Moon is mated to the Sun in eternal union. By acting as "mediatrix" between us and the raw power of the Sun, the Moon brings us gradually into solar empowerment. And, consciously or not, it is our destiny as Earth People, to work with these forces called Sun and Moon, and to master their polarised interaction. This mastery is what Hopi, in their ancient wisdom, introduced us to in the first Earth Healing ceremony.

SPIRITUAL UNITY

As we have seen, spiritual unity can be facilitated through rituals and ceremonies, like the Earth Healing Ceremony. In moments of truly ecstatic communion with all of humanity, we can be brought into closer harmony with the deeper strata of our life's purpose, both individually and collectively. This represents a type of spiritual communion not readily found in a society that single-mindedly glorifies materialism. However, we can create that harmony by attuning with other like-mindeds throughout the planet, and by bringing the reality of spiritual unity, into our own lives, our own families, our own backyards. Not only do we have an ancient and enduring Goddess tradition supporting us, but we have Hopi, and other indigenous spiritual peoples providing their guidance and support, as well. All that is left, is for us to receive this grace, and to live our lives as peacefully and harmoniously as possible. And we can see that the lunation cycle provides us with a consistent and enduring frame of reference for coordinating any globally-oriented efforts in the direction of human unity. In fact, through steady, co-creative, lunation cycle attunement, we have the opportunity of steadily embodying, the spiritual essences of an already-existent, inner domain of spiritual consciousness .

MAGICAL CHILD

Spiritual unity is possible, because at a very deep level, a species-wide pattern of wholeness is present within each of us. That pattern is fixed at birth when we enter fully into the gravitational field at the moment of our first breath. From that moment on, maintaining contact with this pattern of wholeness is one of the greatest challenges we will ever face. It is a challenge faced each and every moment, by that part of ourselves I have come to call the Magical Child.

As simultaneously, both the youngest, and eldest aspect of our consciousness, our Magical Child is that element of personal consciousness that retains a unitive integration of both our masculine and our feminine natures. In a word, the Magical Child is androgynous . He/she is forever challenged to maintain the divine union of these two fundamental principles. The purpose of the lunation cycle teaching, is to help us reconnect consciously with this deep inner realm of spiritual unity, and to tangibly regain our identities as the Divine Children that we are.

On a broad, cultural scale, lunation cycle attunement offers us the collective opportunity to ritually organise ourselves into a powerful, yet peaceful, force of conscious evolutionary intent. It is an intention which is directed away from a multiplicity of shallow and peripheral life experiences, toward the peaceful equilibrium of centrality, a centrality where all opposites are balanced and harmonious. A centrality where all human hearts are united as One.

Within such a unitive vision of humanity, you are seen as an integral element of an evolving wave-form of expanding human consciousness. You are one amongst a multitude. You are divine and enlightened. You are a son or a daughter of the Sun, the Moon, the stars. In Lak'ech: : You are another myself. Together, perhaps we can join with other like-mindeds, other magical children, to co-create the seed-foundations of a new world, a world where issues of greed, power, and materialism need not command the focus of collective attention.

"Together with all nations,
we protect both land and life
and hold the world in balance."

Hopi prayer
